Accessibility at Castel Sant'Angelo

Information for visitors with disabilities, including details on lift access, accessible routes, and free admission policies.

Castel Sant'Angelo is a historic fortress with inherent architectural challenges, but efforts have been made to welcome all visitors. This page provides details to help visitors with mobility needs plan their trip. For information on concessions, please visit our free and reduced tickets page.

Wheelchair Accessibility

The castle is partially accessible to wheelchair users. While the ancient spiral ramp and many staircases present barriers, a lift (elevator) is available for visitors with disabilities. This lift provides access to several of the main levels, including the Courtyard of the Angel and the upper terrace with its panoramic views.

The entrance and the inner courtyard are accessible, with ramps connecting different levels. However, some of the narrower passages, historic prison cells, and rooms with uneven medieval flooring may not be reachable. Museum staff are available to provide assistance and guidance on the most accessible route.

Accessible Toilets

Accessible toilet facilities are available within the castle.
